🌧 The Wounded Helper

The hall was quiet.

At the back of the church sat a young woman named Amaka, staring at the floor. She wasn’t crying—not anymore. Her tears had run dry long ago.

For years, Amaka had been the one everyone ran to.
She volunteered at outreaches.
She counseled women surviving abuse.
She led a small trauma support group.

People called her “the strong one.”

But lately, something had shifted.

She began to withdraw. Conversations felt heavier. Every story of pain sounded familiar—too familiar. The abuse she had buried. The betrayal she had never spoken of. The grief she had masked with service.

The faces she tried to heal slowly became mirrors of her own unhealed wounds.

When the Helper Breaks

One day, after listening to a grieving widow share her loss, Amaka broke down completely.

In that moment, the truth surfaced:
She had been pouring from an empty cup.
Trying to fix others while silently bleeding inside.

Helping had become exhausting.
Empathy had turned into emotional overload.
And compassion had slowly become pain.

A Different Kind of Training

It was around this time that Amaka heard about the Trauma Management Training.

Not a motivational class.
Not another counseling workshop.

But a journey—
into understanding the human mind,
into healing emotional wounds,
into learning how to care for others without losing yourself in their pain.

As the training began, Amaka finally found language for what she had been experiencing. She learned how trauma hides silently, how unprocessed emotions resurface, and how compassion fatigue slowly destroys even the strongest caregivers.

For the first time, she felt seen.
For the first time, she felt supported.
For the first time, she began to heal.

Helping from a Healed Place

Today, Amaka still helps people—but from a different place.

She listens with empathy, not exhaustion.
She comforts with wisdom, not wounds.
She gives from fullness, not depletion.

She understands now:
You cannot heal what you don’t understand.
And you cannot give what you haven’t found.
